Humanitarian aid for Sudan

Plan International Schweiz

The armed conflict that broke out in Sudan in April 2023 has developed into the world's fastest-growing displacement crisis and the largest global hunger crisis. Two years on 8.5 million Sudanes have been internally displaced, while 3.5 million have fled to neighbouring countries.

It is estimated that more than half of the population, almost 26 million people, are affected by acute hunger. It is estimated that almost 5 million children, pregnant women and nursing mothers are acutely malnourished. Furthermore, those affected are facing significant challenges due to a number of ongoing disease outbreaks, including cholera, malaria, dengue fever, measles and rubella. Children, especially girls, are disproportionately affected by the multiple and worsening crises – violence, displacement, disease outbreaks, hunger and malnutrition. The imposition of restrictions on humanitarian access has had a detrimental effect on the level of suffering experienced by the affected population.
